Magdalena Moskwa (born in 1967) – one of the most well-known contemporary Polish painters. She deals with painting, photography, embroidery, creates objects of art, including clothes of nonutilitarian character. She develops her own painting technique based on a chalk plaster relief on a panel. She is inspired by the history of art and at the same time consciously uses contemporary achievements. She creates portraits in which physical resemblance is not as important as the search for essence and bringing out the energy of a model. In her paintings, apart from the images of people, one can see isolated parts of the body, pieces of skin and even the inside of the body – in her most recent works these close-ups verge on the abstract.
